Climate & Best Time to Travel
Zambia experiences three distinct seasons during the year:
- Dry Season (May to October): The best time for wildlife viewing as animals concentrate around rivers and waterholes. Temperatures are pleasant, though June and July can be cold at night.
- Hot Dry Season (October to November): Very hot conditions, but exceptional game viewing in South and North Luangwa.
- Wet/Emerald Season (November to April): Lush green landscapes, excellent birdwatching, and dramatic high water levels at Victoria Falls.
Visa Entry Fees
Most international tourists can obtain a visa upon arrival in Zambia or via the official Zambia E-visa portal prior to departure.
If you plan to visit both Zambia and Zimbabwe (for instance, to view Victoria Falls from both sides), request a KAZA Univisa upon arrival at Livingstone Airport or border posts. It costs US $50 and permits multiple crossings between both countries for up to 30 days.
Health Requirements & Safety
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are traveling from or transiting through yellow-fever-endemic countries.
- Malaria Precautions: Malaria is prevalent in Zambia. Taking anti-malarial prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Carry high-DEET mosquito repellent.
