Egypt has a hot desert climate. Summers (May to October) are extremely hot, especially in Upper Egypt (Luxor and Aswan), with temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C. Winters (November to April) are mild and pleasant, with comfortable daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C, though night temperatures in the desert can drop significantly.

The optimal time to visit Egypt is during the cooler months between October and April. December and January represent peak tourist season; iconic sites like the Pyramids of Giza and Luxor Temples are busier, so early booking is highly recommended.

Pack light, breathable cotton clothing and comfortable walking shoes for exploring temple complexes and cobble-paved bazaars. A light jacket or sweater is necessary for cooler desert evenings and air-conditioned Nile cruise vessels.

A single-entry tourist visa costs US $25 per person. Citizens from many Western countries, including the EU, US, UK, Australia, and Canada, can obtain a visa on arrival at major international airports or apply online via the official Egypt e-Visa portal at least 7 days prior to departure.

No mandatory vaccinations are required unless arriving from a Yellow Fever endemic region, in which case a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. Always drink bottled water and carry oral rehydration salts due to the dry, hot conditions.

The official currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). US Dollars and Euros are widely accepted for major tour payments and tipping. ATMs are easily accessible across major cities, and credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants. Carrying small cash denominations for tipping ("Baksheesh") is recommended.

Egypt is a conservative society. Modest dress is advised when in public, particularly when visiting mosques and traditional markets like Khan el-Khalili. Shoulders and knees should remain covered. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothes help keep cool while staying culturally respectful.

The voltage in Egypt is 220V, operating at 50Hz. Plug types C and F (standard two-round pin European sockets) are used throughout the country.

The official language is Arabic (Egyptian Arabic dialect). English is widely spoken in tourist destinations, hotels, museums, and by safari guides and shopkeepers.
